All About The Director's Cup |
|
The Director's Cup Challenge Series (DCCS) is a special group of early season qualifying tournaments that in addition to awarding USSSA Points and Berths, also awards Special Berths to the Director's Cup Challenge Series Championship, an annual event played the first weekend in May. An event where all the winners of Director's Cup Challenge Series Qualifiers meet to do battle for "The Director's Cup".
So, what's the big deal about the Director's Cup...you ask? There are several "Big Deals"........

Now, let's start at the beginning...
In 2005, the Inaugural year of the Director's Cup Challenge Series, 132 teams played in DCCS Qualifiers for one of 40 spots in the Championship event. In 2006, Qualifier participation grew to 355 teams playing for one of 60 Championship event spots. The 2007 and 2008 seasons saw the Qualifiers max out at 455 teams and 470 teams respectfully with teams trying to qualify for one of 60 Championship event spots each year. For the 2008 season the program was restructured to a more manageable size with 290 teams competing for one of 40 Championship event spots.
In total, 1,702 teams have competed in DCCS Qualifiers and 260 teams have played in the Director's Cup Challenge Series Championship.
And the one thing each of these 260 teams has had in common over the past five years...they played for FREE!
In addition to playing for FREE, the Championship event is also an NIT which means double points and it's always played the first weekend in May, a Georgia Double Point weekend. Thus, the DCCS Championship is a USSSA QUAD POINT event!
The DCCS is offered for age divisions 6U - 13U and teams may enter as many qualifiers as they like to better their chances of championship participation. If a team earns more than one berth, the later berth(s) will be passed down at the later qualifier(s).
